Dr. Stephen Kriss

Adjunct Professor in the Community Transformation Center 

Education: B.A. English & Psychology, journalism and Bible & Religion, Eastern Mennonite University; M.A. Communication, Duquesne University; M.Div., Drew University; Ph.D., Duquesne University. 

Dr. Stephen Kriss brings a rich and diverse background to his role as a professor and academic leader: His journey in education and service began as the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience from 2001 to 2005. Following this, he transitioned to the role of Adjunct Instructor at Biblical Seminary, where he played a pivotal role for several years. During this time, he led multiple international learning experiences in countries including Italy, Vietnam, Cambodia, Israel, and Palestine. 

Dr. Kriss is Affiliate Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Eastern Mennonite University, where he devoted eight years to teaching and shaping future leaders in the field. In tandem with his academic pursuits, Dr. Kriss has maintained a significant role as an Executive Minister for the Franconia Mennonite Conference, a commitment that spans many years. Additionally, he has served as an Executive Minister for the Mosaic Mennonite Conference for the past six years, further demonstrating his dedication to the Mennonite community. 

Starting in August 2023, Dr. Kriss will expand his academic reach by accepting a position at Palm Beach Atlantic University as an Affiliate Professor in the School of Ministry. In this role, he will continue to impart his knowledge and expertise, including teaching courses within the Community Transformation Center. 

Dr. Kriss's engagement extends beyond the classroom, as he actively participates on the boards of various organizations, including Eastern Mennonite University, Roots of Justice, ViaShalom, and Mennonite World Review. His commitment to both academia and social engagement underscores his comprehensive approach to education and service.
